The girls in room 4 have been very busy settling into senior infants this September. We have been enjoying art, play, nature walks, maths games and lots of other fun lessons. We had a visit from a librarian who read two lovely stories.
October has been a brilliant month. We have been learning a lot about Autumn. We made these gorgeous scarecrows and painted the witch's legs! We read the story Room on the Broom and sequenced the important parts. We have been kind friends in the classroom and on the yard.
We brought in our special objects from home. We all presented our special object to the class, telling them what it is, where we got it and when. It was so fun to see everyone's special object.
This Halloween Fun Day we all dressed up in our costumes. Teacher didn't even recognise us! We said goodbye to Mrs. D'Arcy. We will miss her in Room 4.
This month we were learning all about the weather in Irish. We used the Síofra and Oisín puppets in our Irish dramas. Ms. Glennon's 6th class girls wrote wonderful stories which they read to us. The stories and illustrations were fantastic. We loved having them down to our room.
This month we have been counting down to Christmas. Our elf, Twizzle came to visit us and has been making himself at home in our classroom! We had our Winter Woolies Day and decorated our Christmas tree. We learned lots about penguins. We did some writing about them and made lovely penguin artwork.
We performed lots of Christmas songs and poems for the whole school and then for our families. We had been practising very hard! Everybody really enjoyed the show!
We are just back after the New Year. We have been learning about new year celebrations in Ireland and in China. This year the Chinese new year celebrated the year of the rabbit. We made these gorgeous lanterns with the help of Mr. Stritch's 4th class.
This month we have been learning all about St. Brigid. St. Brigid is the patron saint of Kildare. We have been learning that Kildare is a county in Ireland. The Curragh is a famous place in Kildare. St. Valentine's Day is in February also. We made these lovebirds in art. Aren't they nice? We have also started out GAA football and camogie training. It's so much fun! We read a story called 'Alba The One Hundred Year Old Fish'. Poor Alba noticed that the coral reef was becoming polluted with litter. We learned about the importance of recycling and brought in some recyclable materials from home to create cool junk art.
On Pancake Tuesday we enjoyed some tasty pancakes with chocolate or sugar and lemon. They were so tasty!
We had a special visitor to our classroom. Patrick Hunt came to talk to us all about Irish birds that we might see in our garden or locality. He taught us about robins, grey tits, blue tits, sparrows and pigeons. It was really interesting! Then we went on a bird-watching walk around the school. We had to tip-toe around so that we didn't scare the birds. We used binoculars to see the birds in the trees up-close. Afterwards we learned that some birds do a little tap-dance to try to get worms to come up from the ground to eat. We tried this too. It worked!
Carl Mullen and Emily Barker from Dancing With The Stars came to visit our school. We made them posters to wish them good luck. They gave us a sneek-peek of their dance on Sunday and answered some questions. Then they signed autographs. We even got a photo with Emily!
This March we have been enjoying lots of things in our school. We dressed up for World Book Day and brought our favourite book to school to share with our friends. The girls in Ms. Farrell's 5th Class who have been doing paired reading with us, read our favourite books to us in the school library. It was fun!
We were busy this month practising for the Céilí on Lá Glas. We have been learning the Shoe the Donkey dance and Teidí Beag Buí to sing.
For Seachtain na Gaeilge, we have been making a special effort to speak Irish in the classroom and on the yard. The girls from Ms. Farrell's class showed us some lovely Irish stories and games on the iPads.
This Lá Glas we dressed up to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. We went to the hall for a céilí where we performed our Irish dance and song. It was a lovely day!
We walked down to the church in the town to meet Fr. Paul. He showed us lots of the special objects in the church like the Paschal candle, alter, Bible, the baptismal font and the beautiful stained glass windows.
We have been enjoying our Aistear time playing with small world, lego, creating pieces at the writing station and using money to buy things in the restaurant. We got to have a fun dance session with Elaine too! We have been learning a lot about butterflies and their lifecycle. We chose to decorate butterflies with paint or oil pastels. They look gorgeous!
We visited the playground for fun and games. The weather was so sunny and warm. It was so much fun! On the way back, we got ice-pops!
This month we have been learning about capacity. We were filling and emptying containers. We were treated to a wonderful puppet show. It was so funny!
On Tuesday, we had Sports Day. It was a fantastic day! Some of our favourite stations included the three-legged race, the bouncy castle, the egg and spoon race, free play in the outdoor area and the costume races.
