It's hard to believe September is over already! In our classroom the children enjoyed using our calm corner. This is an area set up with sensory items to help the children regulate and focus in school. They use a timer and return to their seats when the timer is done.
We also really enjoyed our authors visit. Emma-Jane visited us from Kildare Library Services. We had great fun working on our creative writing skills with her.
Our favourite art lesson was our still life oil pastels. We used bunches of flowers as our inspiration for this lesson.
5th Class went to the Centenary of Clane Garda Station. We were all delighted to be a part of such a historic event.
In October we began to read our first novel in 5th Class: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. We used the house systems in the book as inspiration for our own "House Point" system in our classroom.
Before we knew it, it was Halloween! We had great fun dressing up and we were delighted to participate in the "Witchy Walk" this year. We were able to help the senior infant classes on the walk.
Our favourite part of our Halloween celebration were the games we played in the classroom!
In November we study the human digestive system. Each group in the class took a digestive organ role. We recreated the human digestive system using bread. Each group then illustrated the mechanical or chemical digestion that took place at their station.
We had an online zoom with the National Dairy Council of Ireland where we learnt about the importance of calcium in our diets.
In December we were very busy preparing for our first school musical 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat'. The show was a great experience and a great memory for us to have made in primary school.
Despite being busy with our musical, we managed to finish our novel too! To celebrate we had a movie day where we compared the movie and the book versions of the novel. To finish off term one, we also constructed (and ate) gingerbread houses.
