Failte go rang a dó
In our first week back at school we worked together to create our class agreement.
We have created a wall in our classroom to display the work we are most proud of. This is our 'brightest work' for September.'

Can you see how creative we were with our costumes in room five at Halloween? We had great fun participating in a 'Witches Walk' around the school and had little Halloween party. It was so much fun to do work all dressed up especially when we got to read our novel in our new outdoor learning space.
We are reading a fantastic novel all about a hedgehog called Max who gets up to all sorts of different adventures trying to cross the road. We have brainstormed what kind of character Max is, wrote about the setting of the story, created diary entries pretending we were hedgehogs who had been on a night of hunting and we have also acted out freeze frames of different parts of the book. In Science we also learned fun facts about hedgehogs and how they hibernate each Winter. In Geography we examined where they are found. In the coming weeks we are going to design a new cover for the book, write a different ending to the story and will complete a book review when we are finished it.
Between the 8th and 12th of November we carried out lots of different experiments for science week. Before we carried out each one we predicted what we might use the different materials for and what kind of experiment we would be carrying out. Some of our predictions even came true! We observed raisins dance, watched a rainbow appear on kitchen towel using food colouring, analysed why an egg that was on the bottom of a jar suddenly floated to the top when we added salt and pierced a bag full of water with sharp pencils.
One of our theme's in November is 'Homes'. In Science we learned all about earths and setts where badgers and foxes live, in English we wrote about our homes, in art we created 3D houses and also designed our own rooms from different recyclable items, in Gaeilge we authored and illustrated our very own books, in History we examined artefacts of photographs of Clane many years ago and in Geography we analysed different types of homes around the world. We all agreed that this theme has been one of our favourite so far this year.
We love integrating STEM as much as we can into our class work and love seeing how we can take these skills and apply them outside the classroom. Learning about female leaders in STEM also inspires us to try our best.
We all enjoyed watching 'The Late Late Toy Show' so much that after reading our written reviews of it we decided to put on our very own toy show. We brought a toy from home into school and carried out a review for the class. Asking our friends challenging questions about their toys was lots of fun.
We had lots of fun counting, sorting, adding and subtracting money using real money. Using Aldi catalogues we set up our own shops in our pods and learned so much about how to work out how to pay for different items in a shop.
Our theme for December was Christmas and we had fantastic fun learning about how Christmas is celebrated all around the world, dressing up in Christmas jumpers, making different Christmas themed art pieces, singing our 'Daidí na Nollaig' song to Santa and most importantly we learned about the season of Advent and took time to carry out random acts of kindess in school and at home.
We started off the new term learning all about length. We had a maths trail outside to measure lots of different things using our metre strings, in the classroom we measured using centimetres and we even had a chance to measure things using our fingers and hands.
We spent the month of January exploring space and learned so many new facts. All our hard work has been displayed in a beautiful noticeboard on the corridor for all the classes to learn from.
On the first of February we celebrated St. Brigid's Day. We were very lucky to participate in a webinar online where we learned all about St. Brigid and also learned how to make our own St. Brigid's Day crosses. Aren't they beautiful?!
The 14th of February was a very special day in our classroom. We participated in a fundraiser for the parents council and got to wear our own clothes to school. Most of us wore pink and red. We examined and created a story map of the life of St. Valentine, reflected on what makes our hearts happy and drew these into a heart divided up into pieces and we also sponge painted beautiful picture with 'Grá' and 'Love' written on them.
World Book Day was met with much excitement in room five. Long, interesting conversations took place about our favourite books and we also had a chance to review a book we read recently. It was such a beautiful day we decided to play a game of 'Book Bingo' outside. Getting to dress up as one of our favourite characters from a book we treasure was the highlight of our celebrations. Can you guess who we all are?
The week of the 4th to 8th of April was an incredibly special one for us all as we celebrated a range of well being activities from yoga, chalk drawings of positive quotes, a trip to our local playground, board games, mindful moments to a wide range of art activities focused on friendship and kindness.
As budding poets we decided to create our own Mother's Day poems for our loved ones. We also designed and constructed Mother's Day cards and gifted them while singing 'Cárta Deas do Mhamaí'.
Check out our wonderfully constructed Easter wreaths.
Woodies Budding Gardener programme is an exciting initiative which is teaching us all to become gardeners and encouraging us to spend time outdoors. We planted our own irises and lettuce seeds which we are monitoring daily in our classroom. There is so much to be learned from examining them, comparing and contrasting their growth and predicting how big they all might grow.
Coillte also kindly donated a tree to every child in our school. Many of us have planted these at home.
We made our First Holy Communion on 22nd May. All the hard work we put into learning our prayers, preparing beautiful art work and learning all about this special sacrament paid off. We had a very special day.
It was such an adventure to go to our school tour to Lullymore. There was so much to see and do there from petting the ponies, flying along the zipline, singing all our favourite songs on the train, examining houses from long ago to the wonderful indoor play centre. It was the most magical day.
Our school is an active school and we fly our flag with pride. This week we were even more active than normal and were very lucky to have an opportunity to participate in so many different activites. Some of the highlights were learning about tag rugby, learning a new dance routine and sports day. It was an amazing week for all.
