Welcome to Fourth Class!! We are excited to be back in school. We hope we will learn lots of new things this year and have lots of fun along the way! Please click in on our class web page regularly to get just a glimpse of our journey through Fourth Class.
We had to think about the qualities we would love our new teacher to have...we hope Ms. Carberry was listening!!
We are enjoying our Art lessons every Friday. Here we are busy at work.
We learned about the work of British artist Lucian Freud. He got to know his subjects while painting them as he wanted to bring across their personality in their portrait. We painted our own self portraits.
We have had lots of fun trying to figure each other out!!
We are all different. That's what makes us special. Can you see the things that are special to us and some of our favourite things?
Our school library is open for business next week!! In the meantime we have been making excellent use of our class library and have loved spending our library time reading outside.
We have been learning about resilience. Everyone faces upset or disappointments every now and then. Resilience is being strong, trying to be positive, and eventually being able to bounce back from these problems.
We learned about Malala . She protested against the closing of girls' schools in her area. She has spoken all over the world about the importance of the education of girls.
We learned how Michael Jordan was dropped from the school basketball team because they did not think he was good enough. Michael Jordan says he uses his failures to succeed.
JK Rowling showed resilience too!! Her book was rejected 12 times!! She didn't stop trying!
We had to choose a resilient person who inspires us. We did research on them and presented our work to the class. Here is just a few of the people who inspire us.....
We learned about Irish Artist Evie Hone. We designed our own stained glass windows. They look beautiful on our classroom windows.
We discussed images that come to mind when we think of Autumn. Ms Carberry read us an Autumn poem to inspire our art work...We worked with pastels...
We watched a special mass to celebrate the beginning of the new School Year. It was live streamed into our classroom. Bishop Denis Nulty said the mass.
We have been learning about the counties and provinces of Ireland. We learned about Co. Offaly.
We had to choose a county to research and make a brochure listing lots of helpful information such as....nickname, population, mountains, rivers, tourist attractions, towns, famous people , fun facts, etc...
We have been learning about the famous American Aviator Amelia Earhart. She was also known as the Queen of the Air. We learned about her in class and also researched some facts at home.
We worked with charcoals this week. Ms. Carberry read us "The Haunted House " by Jack Prelutsky and we responded to the poem, listening to spooky music as we drew. Look at some of our terrifying pictures!!
We have had a lot of fun during Maths week. We enjoyed playing the Place Value Game....
We followed clues to find the correct answer....
We played Three In A Row
We played Bingo!
During Maths Week, we also went on a Maths Trail and tried to work out the questions in our Booklets!
During Maths Week, we made our very own Area Robots for Maths Art. Maths can be fun!
We have been getting used to sending a little homework on Microsoft Teams. We were set a challenge...to use our Maths Eyes..and capture an image of Maths being all around us.
Here are some of our wonderful images!!
Happy Halloween from all of us in Room 11!!
Look at some of our Halloween Art!!
In November we Remember those we have loved who have passed away...
We have learned the poem "The Moon" by Robert Louis Stephenson.
Please ask us to recite it for you.
We responded to the poem using pastels to create these wonderful works of art.
Last week was Science Week.
We blew up balloons.
We put them under an upturned table.
We wanted to see what would happen when someone stood on the table....
We had so much fun....
The balloons did not burst....even when Ms Carberry and Ita stood on the table!!
Look at our mini projects on Ancient Greece. We had to research a topic on Ancient Greece. Some of the topics were, Food and Drink, Houses, Growing up in Ancient Greece, Entertainment, Legends from Ancient Greece, Athens, Sparta. We presented our research to the class. Here are just some of our wonderful projects.
We were assigned a God of Goddess from Ancient Greece. We created a "Passport" for our god. We had to research them and present our god or goddess to the class.
Here are just a few to view so you can see how hard we have worked on them. Everyone put their research in their own words.
